Roman Empire:

The Church is not something that exist outside history a story that was created. It shapes and develops each generation It lives in. As we revisit the journey of the Church tree hundred years after Jesus, we can see how the Holy Spirit works in history.

The Roman Empire was one of the most powerful societies in the world. It had its power all around the Mediterranean, Europe, Egypt, and Africa. It had trade routes within its boundaries and united these counties by force.

It was along these trade routes that the Early Christians brought the message of Jesus and established the Church in Major centres of the Roman Empire.

Major Centres:

  1. Jerusalem in
    Israel.

  2. Alexandria in Egypt.

  3. Rome in Italy.

  4. Constantinople in Turkey.

  5. Antioch in Asia Minor.

Constantine:

Constantine was directed in a dream to have a  heavenly sign to be delineated on the shields of his soldiers, and so to proceed to battle. He did as he had been commanded, and he marked on their shields the letter Χ, with a perpendicular line drawn through it being the cipher of Christ.

Chi Rho:

Christ” in Greek:  ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ.

The first two letters Chi (χ) and Rho (ρ).

Having this sign (☧), his troops stood to arms. Constantine describes a vision that he had while marching at midday in which “he saw with his own eyes the trophy of a cross of light in the heavens, above the sun, and bearing the inscription, In Hoc Signo Vinces” (“In this sign thou shalt conquer”).

His troops went on to win the battle.
