The Books.

Book of Books:

The first clue that the bible is not one book, but a book of books is in its name.

Latin Biblia (‘book’ or ‘books’) which comes from the Greek Ta Biblia (‘the books’) 

The Bible is a library. Containing 73 books.

A Library full of the experience of God in the life of Humanity.

Recorded in different styles. primeval history, ancestral narratives, poems, songs, prophecy, recorded life of Jesus, and revelation.

The Bible is not a history book, but its full of History. The History of Salvation.

Divine Inspiration:

 

These books contain texts that are sacred to Jews, Christians, and Muslims Faiths.

Recording an intimate relationship between God and His people.

Collectively these texts are called Scripture. The written word of God.

 
 

Oral Tradition:

Originally these teachings were passed on orally from generation to generation.

Though these teachings were passed on orally they were also kept in written form.

The book of Job is considered the earliest book.

These teachings were recorded in ancient Hebrew on scrolls.

Language:

Due to the influence of Alexander the Great, Greek was the common language.

King Ptolemy II circa 300 B.C. established a library at Alexandria and was persuaded to enrich it with a copy of the Sacred books of the Jews.

These Books were recorded in the
Greek language.

Collectively called Septuagint.

Septuagint:

 

The name derived from the 72 translators,
6 from each of the 12 tribes of Israel.

They maintained the styles of writing from each tradition.

The texts, collected in a canon. The books that would be held in the Bible.
